Formula Blueprint

How the conversion is calculated

The selected pair is converted from a shared USD-based rate table.

Direct conversion Converted amount = Amount x (Rate to / Rate from)

If 1 USD equals 0.87698 EUR, then 100 USD converts to 87.70 EUR before any provider, bank, card, or cash-exchange markup.

Inverse rate Inverse rate = 1 / direct pair rate

The inverse helps compare both directions of the same pair, such as USD to EUR and EUR to USD.

Exchange rate notes before you convert

Use the live rate as a planning reference, then compare actual provider quotes.

Market rate is not always your final rate

Banks, card networks, cash desks, and payment apps may add spreads, fees, or delayed settlement rates.

Check the timestamp

Most public reference rates update daily. For a time-sensitive transfer, compare the provider's live quote.

Travel and card purchases can differ

Card conversion dates, ATM fees, dynamic currency conversion, and weekend timing can change the posted amount.

Common Questions

Currency Converter FAQs

Quick answers about exchange rates, accuracy, fees, and rate timing.

Are these exchange rates live?

The calculator loads a current public reference-rate feed when the page opens. The displayed timestamp shows when the returned rate data was last dated or refreshed.

Why is my bank's rate different?

Reference rates do not include provider markups, foreign transaction fees, cash-exchange spreads, card-network timing, or weekend settlement behavior. Those can move your actual charged rate.

How many currencies are supported?

Frankfurter's full catalog includes 201 currencies. The converter loads that catalog for names and filters the selectable list to currencies with latest live rates.

Can I use this for invoices or taxes?

Use it as a quick planning estimate. For accounting, customs, tax, or contract work, use the rate source required by your policy, jurisdiction, or counterparty.

What does the trend chart show?

When the selected pair is available in the historical feed, the chart uses recent daily reference rates. If not, it shows a compact fallback based on the latest loaded rate.

Is my amount saved?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. The page may cache rate data locally to avoid unnecessary API calls, but it does not send your entered amount to NerdCalc.

Methodology and source verification

The conversion math on this page is cross-checked against standard cross-rate formulas and public foreign-exchange reference feeds. The calculator estimates exchange value from reference rates, but it does not replace bank quotes, card-network settlement rates, tax-authority rules, or contract-specific rate requirements.

Verified
Reference basis: the calculation engine converts from Frankfurter's USD-based latest-rate table using amount x (target rate / source rate). The explanatory copy is anchored to public API documentation, official central-bank reference-rate framing, and Federal Reserve foreign-exchange data notes.
